Western Chapter Civil Service Week a success

WESTERN BUREAU:The Western Chapter of the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) says its Civil Service Week slate of activities, which took place from November 17 to 23 under the theme 'Transformation and Renewal for a Better Jamaica', was a success.
Civil Service Week is used by the Government of Jamaica to highlight and celebrate the contributions civil servants make to the development of the country. The week's activities featured a pre-week run/walk on Saturday, November 16, and a regional church service, which was held on Sunday, November 17, at the Assemblies of God Holiness Church in Falmouth, Trelawny.
"Overall, the week was fairly successful," Sydoney Brackett, administrator at the JCSA, told Western Focus. "We just needed more support from the civil servants within the region themselves. The run/walk was not well supported; we had 35 participants, so it could have been better. But since it is the first staging, next year we will start advertising earlier and encourage other groups from both the public and private sector to come out."
The activities climaxed with the organisation's expo and open/sale day last Friday at the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA) complex at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay.
It also featured an outside broadcast on Power 106FM with display booths by sponsors and departments and agencies from government ministries, including the ministries of agriculture, labour, education and local government.
Other government departments in attendance were the Child Development Agency, Registrar General's Department, Consumer Affairs Commission, St James Parish Library, Jamaica Customs, Tax Administration Jamaica and the Housing Agency of Jamaica.
"The exposition was good. We had 29 booths. A lot of managers from the various public sectors and head of departments came out," said Brackett.
Sponsors of the week of activities include Kia Motors, the Ministry of Finance, Scotiabank, National Commercial Bank, Singer, Courts, and the Jamaica International Insurance Company.
