Follow NCU's rules or leave!
The Editor, Sir:
It seems to me that if the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) has a rule stating that its students must attend chapel services, then students who attend that institution should follow that rule. That is no different than a secondary school requiring its students to attend morning assembly.
Attending a chapel service has nothing to do with converting non-Adventist NCU students to Adventists. It seems to me that NCU desires its students to attend chapel services because it is a means through which it exposes students to biblical teachings (albeit from an Adventist standpoint), inculcate a sense of discipline in students, set an example to students about the importance of worship, expose students to a wide range of speakers, and preserve and carry on a long-held tradition.
Everything that NCU students are exposed to at chapel services assist in moulding their character. Likewise, students at Catholic-run institutions - like Campion College and Immaculate Con-ception High- are exposed to Mass and religious education from a Catholic standpoint. There is nothing wrong with that.
NCU students who don't want to attend chapel services should find another university to attend. Rules are rules!
