Moral victory for VCB
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I would like to use the occasion of the ending of the World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland, to extend heartiest congratulations to Veronica Campbell-Brown. She finished fifth in the final of the women's 60m on Sunday after her official return to international competition on February 25. VCB had a season's best of 7.12 seconds.
While taking nothing from the gold medallist and countrywoman, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who won in 6.98s, it is clear that these championships marked a moral victory for VCB, who has been out of competition for close to 10 months.
With only two races (in all of that time) previous to the finals, this serves to show that she not only belonged on the team, but also that she is officially back.
I look forward to Friday's press conference in which the details of the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling in her favour will be discussed in greater detail, as well as other matters related to the case.
Big up to VCB, again!
