Annual Earth Day Competition winners to be announced next week
The Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) will be hosting its annual Earth Day Competition awards ceremony and exhibition on Wednesday.
The ceremony comes a day after the official celebration of Earth Day and is expected to start at 10:00 a.m. at the Institute of Jamaica's Lecture Hall on East Street in Kingston.
Under the theme 'Conserving Land for Food Security', this year's competition was geared at stimulating awareness around the issue of wise land use, in addition to creating a greater appreciation for land as a source of food.
The competition saw entries from secondary institutions across the island as students were invited to submit individual entries to the Literary Arts, Poster, and Photography categories. Each school was also invited to submit a group entry for the Performing Arts category.
Entries in each category were judged, based on creativity, originality, content, and interpretation of theme, among other criteria determined by the NHMJ.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 each year and aims to promote the preservation of the Earth's natural resources. Jamaica is among 190 countries that participate in what will be the 44th annual Earth Day celebrations.
