When Matthew Gore took the chequered flag in a Thundersport II event at Dover Raceway on Easter Monday, beating David Summerbell Jr into second place, it was an indication that it could be the start of a new rivalry.

Automotives has learnt that based on the new rules, when Doug Gore and his Audi TT return to Dover for the August Independence race meet, it is likely that he may only compete in the Thundersport races.

This means that his younger brother, Matthew, could be the man from Team MoBay, who will be taking the fight to Summerbell and company in the Modified Production Class 4 events.

On Easter Monday, Matthew led for most of the race, with Summerbell and Chris Campbell in hot pursuit.

"Matthew's career begun about 17 years ago when a family friend, David Watkin, put him behind the steering wheel of a rear-wheel Toyota Starlet on a dirt track at Moreland, St James. Since then, he has been impressive," said Doug, commenting on his sibling.

Though the car is up for the sale, the older Gore believes Matthew's Mitsubishi Evolution 10 is ready for action. In a post-meet comment, Matthew publicly stated that his car was in perfect condition, and all he needs is a sponsor.

Born in Texas, USA, Matthew attended Belair High in Manchester. He got his big racing break in 2007, when he did a stint at the Brands Hatch Motor Racing Circuit in Kent, United Kingdom, working alongside the Windrush Motorsport team. It was owned by ex-footballer Luther Blissett. The team was also supported by former soccer players John Barnes and Les Ferdinand.
