Campbell sets sights on a ‘miracle’ in Brussels

Reigning Olympic shot put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell is anticipating a “miracle” of a throw before the season ends.

This, after registering three shows over 22 metres at the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday.

“I’m working on something,” an excited Campbell told reporters after dropping 22.22m to place second in Zurich.

“There have been signs to a miracle, you know what I mean, but definitely ... I’m gonna have coach there (in Brussels) so there should be a lot more,” he reasoned.

“I won’t have to try to figure things out by myself, so I’m excited for that, the Diamond League final is the best place to put that together,” added the two-time national champion.

With the Diamond League final just a week away, Campbell, who set the National record of 22.44m on June 25 in Croatia, said he’s excited about what’s to come in the Brussels set for September 4 and 5.

“Definitely. I mean, a lot of it, me and my coach have worked a lot on body position ... If you look at the 22.22 (metres), I was more where my body did the throwing ... and I definitely get more consistent results, which three throws over 22 (metres) is a lot.”
