Munro stay perfect

Munro College maintained their perfect start to the ISSA daCosta Cup football competition with a 2-0 victory over BB Coke at home yesterday.

Izion Frazer and Kajaye Williams got the goals for Munro, who moved to 12 points and remained tied with Black River High atop Zone D. Munro lead the zone on goal difference.

BB Coke remained on nine points alongside Lacovia High and also hold the advantage on goal difference.

Munro coach Everdean Scarlett said he intends to continue making it difficult for visiting teams.

“I give God thanks for winning the game and for us getting three points, but I didn’t think we played to our full potential. Nonetheless, we were better than BB Coke and we walked away with victory,” said Scarlett.

“Any team comes to Munro, they have to work hard for whatever they want, and we are not gonna make it easy on any team coming here. We plan to stick to what we say and make here a fortress where we win games,” added Scarlett.

In another match, Lacovia High cruised past Belair 3-0 through goals from Ommoy Cunningham, Tyraun Bembridge and Enrique Samms.

Assistant coach Willard Douglas said the team accomplished its objective.

“We didn’t want to leave Mandeville empty-handed, and that was the plan. We came for the three points and a clean sheet. And that objective was met,” said Douglas.

“The first half of the game was very rough for several reasons. The second half, we made a few adjustments, played our football and got the victory.”

Elsewhere in Zone D, Black River High maintained their perfect record with a 3-0 win over Mt St Joseph Catholic.

Lennon High thumped Kellits High 15-1, Denbigh High hammered Tacius Golding 8-1, while St Mary High crushed Iona High 8-0.

The Ben Francis KO competition will begin on Friday, while the daCosta Cup preliminary round will resume on Tuesday.
