Why is religious education not part of teacher training?

THE EDITOR, Madam:
My question is: “Why are the Teachers’ Colleges not offering Religious Education as part of their Teacher-Training Curricula or Programme”?
I am a past student of Shortwood Teachers’ College, in which one of my Majors was to be trained in the teaching of Religious Education; but now that Programme is not offered there any more. When I had asked why this is so, the answer was that it was “not marketable”.
This is not true. Students are still interested to do Religious Education; but it is not available in the Teachers’ Colleges any more. This is of great concern! What this implies is that eventually no Religious Education will be taught in our schools.
Jamaica is moving in the wrong direction, to become a secular society. I am calling on parents to be aware of what your child / or children are being taught in the schools. Do not be afraid to confront any teacher or principal, who is trying to condition your children’s mind to accept homosexuality and transgender. Speak out and speak up. Expose that school! Rescue your children from danger! Isaiah 41:13 reads: “I am the LORD your God; I strengthen you and say, ‘Do not be afraid; I will help you!’”
To God, the Father, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Father, and the Holy Spirit, praise, honour and glory belong. Amen and amen.
