ST JOHN’S, Antigua (CMC):

Windward Islands Women boosted their hopes of reaching the bronze-medal match with a 15-run victory over winless Guyana Women in the CWI Rising Stars Under-19 Women’s Championship yesterday.

After electing to bat first at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Windward Islands Women posted 93 for three from their 20 overs.

Much of their total was aided by the 25 extras conceded by Guyana’s bowlers, including 20 wides.

The next-highest scorer was captain Kaela George, whose unbeaten 24 came off 29 balls, while Mikayla Adams made 16 not out from 35 deliveries. The pair shared an unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 57.

Guyana Women then struggled to build momentum in their run chase and eventually closed on 78 for eight from their 20 overs.

Like their opponents, they also benefited from some wayward bowling, with 28 extras contributing to their total.

Sarah Bheir top-scored for Guyana with 24 off 31 balls, while captain Danellie Manns laboured to an unbeaten 15 from 50 deliveries.

Giada Small, with three for 13, and Ammie Antoine, who claimed three for 20, did most of the damage, while Jaeda Tyrell provided solid support with two for 12.

The Windward Islands now sit level with Jamaica Women on four points in third position, while Guyana remain without a win after four matches.
