Down-in-class Money Market favoured for Nigel Nunes Trophy

Money Market has probably won more overnight-allowance races than any other horse in training, taking advantage of the revolving-door conditions between that level and open allowance, the higher class at which he won in February and March before taking ‘vacation’ after a fourth-place run behind LEGACY ISLE in May’s grade-one Reggae Trophy.

Having not won an open-allowance since beating SHE’S THAT GIRL and ZULU WARRIOR in March, clocking 1:00.1 at five furlongs round, MONEY MARKET gets a bye, due to his six-month ‘vacation’, to drop class among overnight allowance in Saturday's Nigel Nunes Trophy at five furlongs straight.

Last raced in May, MONEY MARKET enjoyed the view from fourth place as two-time Mouttet Mile runner-up, LEGACY ISLE, destroyed open-allowance runners by nine lengths, clocking 57.1 in the Reggae Trophy at five furlongs straight.

Out-of-class LEGACY ISLE winning the Reggae Trophy by nine puts MONEY MARKET heads-on with third-place ANOTHER ONE, who was, in turn, a length and a half behind runner-up PACK PLAYS.

Therefore, MONEY MARKET’s Reggae Trophy run with 109lb emphasised that he is really an open-allowance runner, who, if given the right weight conditions, will pull a fast one on grade-one company as he did when beating last year’s Bruceontheloose Sprint winner, topweight OF A REVOLUTION, posting 57.2 at five furlongs straight in February’s Reggae Month Anniversary Trophy.

Though not the best drawn, breaking from stall six in a 16-horse field, MONEY MARKET is, without doubt the most accomplished sprinter in the line-up with nine wins under his girth, the last two being at the higher level against open-allowance runners.

Gary Subratie hasn’t even bothered calling in a claiming rider, entrusting Dane Dawkins to get the job done at 123lb, which shouldn’t be hard for MONEY MARKET, who finished fourth with 120lb in last year’s grade-one Port Royal Sprint behind eventual Mouttet Mile winner RIDEALLDAY, DESERT OF MALIBU and PACK PLAYS.
