Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel died on Tuesday, a day after suffering a cardiac arrest following a collision during his club’s Spanish second-division match against FC Andorra.

He was 30.

De Miguel collapsed after colliding with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during stoppage time on Monday.

Medical personnel treated him on the pitch before he was taken to hospital by ambulance. The match was abandoned.

Police in Spain have opened proceedings for possible involuntary manslaughter following De Miguel’s death, a National Police source said.

Judicial authorities in the Canary Islands explained that the investigation was routine, as deaths considered non-natural automatically trigger a judicial inquiry under Spanish law.

Tenerife initially reported that the striker was in a serious but stable condition.

However, an update early Tuesday said his neurological condition had deteriorated.

The club later confirmed his death, expressing profound grief and offering support to his family.

His relatives thanked supporters for their messages and requested privacy.

Born in Madrid, De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellón in July 2025.

He scored 11 league goals during the 2025–26 campaign, helping the club secure promotion to Spain’s second tier.

The Spanish Football Federation postponed all matches scheduled for Tuesday, while UEFA announced that a period of silence would be observed before European fixtures this week.
