Members of the joint police-military team that was responsible for the seizure of a cache of firearms and ammunition in St James this morning are being lauded by Police Commissioner Carl Williams.

The St James Police say 6 illegal firearms and 64 rounds of assorted ammunition were found in the community of Rosemount during a wake for Mario Deane.

Deane is the construction worker who died last month after a brutal beating at the Barnett Street Police Station.

The mother of an unarmed Jamaican teen who was shot and killed by a police officer in New York City has praised the United States Department of Justice for opening a full investigation into the killing.

18 year-old Ramarley Graham was chased and shot to death by police officer Richard Haste inside his family’s home in The Bronx in February 2012.

Haste was initially indicted for manslaughter in June 2012, but a Bronx judge tossed the case, saying prosecutors made an error when they presented the charges.

A second grand jury opted against an indictment.

The St James Police has revealed that 6 handguns and 64 rounds of assorted ammunition were seized this morning in the community of Rosemount.

According to the police, the seizure came during a wake for Mario Deane, the construction worker, who died on Independence Day three days after he was brutally beaten while in the custody of the Barnett Street Police.
