The second phase of hurricane Dean relief payments is expected to begin today.

Labour and Social Security Minister, Pearnel Charles, said $400 million is to be paid to persons whose houses were affected by hurricane Dean.

Mr. Charles said the cheques would be distributed in the parishes of St. Thomas, St. Catherine, St. Elizabeth, Manchester, St. Mary, and Kingston and St. Andrew.

Payouts were delayed last year, following irregularities in the claims made by several householders. However, more than 3,000 householders have benefited from the relief programme.

Mr. Charles said measures have been put in place to monitor the distribution of fraudulent cheques.
