Fire strikes in St. Ann

Seven people have been left homeless after a fire destroyed their four-bedroom house in St. Ann’s Bay, this morning.



The owner of the house, Allan Jones said he lost all his belongings in the blaze.



According to Mr. Jones, a child who was playing with matches in a room to the back of the building started the fire.



Acting District Officer at the St. Ann’s Bay Fire Station, Dervin Brown said fire fighters were alerted around 8.30 am, when they rushed to the house the entire building was already engulfed in flames.



Officer Brown also said the firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.



Loss is estimated at $6 million.
