Witnesses started giving testimonies today into the trial of 22 year old Stephen Fray, who attempted to hijack a Canjet aircraft at the Sangsters International Airport in Montego Bay St James in April.

The pilot, who was shot at in the aircraft, told the Montego Bay Gun Court today that Fray told him that he was God and that he was in trouble and needed to leave Jamaica.

This was substantiated by one of the airline’s stewardesses who took the witness stand.

She testified that Fray told her that she needed to accompany him to go and get some drugs.

Another passenger told the court that Fray’s behaviour seems to be that of a normal man, given the way in which he concocted his plan to hijack the aircraft.

All three witnesses testified that Fray repeated that he desperately needed to get off the island.

Fray’s lawyers are insisting that their client suffers from insanity.

Fray, was arrested on nine counts of illegal possession of a firearm, shooting with intent, robbery with aggravation, assault at common law and breaches of the Airport Act following the incident on April 18.

The plane, which had over 160 passengers onboard, was scheduled to depart for Cuba, enroute to Halifax in Canada.
