Defence and prosecution attorneys involved in the case of six American tourists arrested after a brawl with local police personnel say they have reached a plea agreement.

Under the agreement that was reached on the weekend, five of the six New Yorkers have changed their plea to guilty while the charges against the sixth are expected to be dropped.

The plea bargain is expected to see the tourists being slapped with fines but escaping jail time during sentencing scheduled for today.

The September 4 brawl between the six and the police happened after the visitors were driven to the St. John’s police station by a taxi driver who accused them of refusing to pay for an island tour.
