St. Lucia’s opposition leader urges region consider CCJ

St Lucia\'s Opposition Leader Dr. Kenny Anthony says the region should seriously consider the suggestion by the United Kingdom that the Caribbean has overstayed its welcome at the Privy Council.

The president of the newly established UK Supreme Court, Lord Phillips, complained recently that the Law Lords of the Privy Council were spending too much time dealing with cases from former Caribbean colonies.

The Council is the final appeal court of most CARICOM member states.

Dr Anthony says that warning should not be ignored.

Meanwhile, in Britain, Labour Member of Parliament Diane Abbott, whose parents are Jamaican, has suggested that Caribbean governments begin to show confidence in their own regional final appellate court.
