John Barnes fired from Tranmere Rovers
Jamaica-born Liverpool legend John Barnes, who resigned as coach of the Reggae Boys earlier this year to take up the manager job at English League One side Tranmere Rovers, has been fired.
The former England midfielder was sacked today along with assistant Jason McAteer after a run of just two league wins from 11 matches.
Tranmere are 22nd in League One and have conceded a division-high 26 goals.
Barnes endured more pressure this week when Tranmere were ousted from the Johnstone\'s Paint Trophy by League Two side Bury.
Barnes was also sacked as Celtic boss in 2000 after losing to Inverness Caldedonian Thistle
After eight years without a coaching job he was hired by President of the Jamaica Football Federation Captain Horace Burrell and had a successful stint as Jamaica’s head coach before leaving in the summer.
The 45-year-old Barnes steered Jamaica to the Digicel Caribbean Cup title last December and was unbeaten in his 11 games as Jamaica boss.
