The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is offering a $500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those behind the theft of oil from a transformer at its Parnassus Substation in Clarendon.
The JPS said the incident, which took place on Saturday night, caused extensive damage to the transformer.
The company said the transformer later caught fire and left approximately 18 thousand of its customers without electricity supplies.
The company said some customers are still being affected by the instability at the substation.
Persons with information are being asked to contact the Clarendon police or call JPS at 935-3333.
