Power back in Clarendon
The Jamaica Public Service Company, (JPS) says customers affected by the fire at its substation power plant in Carendon are now receiving their regular electicity supply.
The JPS says the incident, which took place on Saturday night, caused extensive damage to the transformer.
The company says that transformer later caught fire and left approximately 18,000 of its customers without electricity supplies.
Ruthlyn Johnson, JPS’s Corporate Communication Offer says repairs have since started at the site and temporary transformer put in place.
She says the JPS is working on getting a permanent transformer at the Clarendon substation soon.
In the meantime, Ms. Johnson says the light and power company has been receiving calls in response to its appeal for information.
The JPS is offering a $500,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those behind the theft of oil from a transformer at its Parnassus Substation in Clarendon.
