Campbell Brown receives big awards

Double Olympic 200-metre champion Veronica Campbell-Brown of Jamaica was today conferred as a United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO) Champion for Sport.



The presentation took place during the 35th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO in Paris, France.



Campbell-Brown, who was nominated by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Olivia Grange, will take on the mission of Gender Equality in Sports.



Minister Grange also attended the ceremony.



Campbell-Brown joined a select band of athletes to receive the UNESCO Champions for Sport award. The list includes German Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher, Brazilian football legend Pele, Ukrainian Olympic champion pole-vaulter Serhiy Bubka and Belgian Olympic women’s tennis and Grand Slam champion Justine Henin.
