ABTA wants tax dropped

The British travel Association (ABTA) wants the UK government to rethink its decision to increase its Air Passenger Duty from November 1.

Passengers will start paying the increased tax from next month.

The association has warned that the hike could lead to many hard pressed airlines reconsidering their routes out of British airports.

Caribbean governments and tourism organisations and agencies have been lobbying the British government to abandon the tax, which they argue will hurt Caribbean tourism.

ABTA said Britain should follow the example of the Dutch government, which earlier this year ditched a similar tax.
