St Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas has announced plans to dissolve the country’s parliament in December while the government carries on conducting state affairs.
Dr Douglas said the National Assembly would dissolve automatically on December 16, as the twin island federation awaits the ruling of constitutional matters now before the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court.
Among the issues before the courts are an opposition challenge against proposed constituency boundary changes.
The government has acknowledged that calling a general election before those matters are addressed by the courts will be difficult.
However Prime Minister Douglas told the nation in an address last night that the dissolution of the parliament will go ahead.
