Former West Indies selector, Joey Carew, has urged the West Indies Cricket Board to appoint Darren Ganga as West Indies captain.

Carew says Ganga’s leadership and tactics had been exemplary and pointed out these were qualities that are currently needed by the West Indies.

Carew makes the call following Trinidad and Tobago’s win over English County side Somerset and Deccan Chargers of India in the Twenty/Twenty Champions League this week.

Ganga was credited with excellent leadership of the Caribbean side.

T&T have been the surprise team at the Champions League in India, defending moderate totals to pull off shock wins to reach the second round.

Ganga was handed the West Indies captaincy for a short time during the 2007 tour of England. Following an injury to captain Ramnaresh Sarwan, he led the side in the two final Tests of the series.

He has enjoyed much success at the regional level, leading T&T to several titles in recent years.
