Human rights group call for Beijing boycott

Reporters Without Borders want heads of state, heads of government and members of royal families to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics games on August 8.

The group accused the Chinese government of being involved in human rights violations.

The press freedom organisation said China has not kept any of the promises it made in 2001, when it was chosen to host the Olympics.

The group called on politicians throughout the world to voice their disapproval of China’s policies by announcing their intention not to attend the opening of the Olympic games.

At least 100 journalists, internet users and cyber-dissidents are currently imprisoned in China.

Journalists have been banned from visiting Tibet since March 12, and have been expelled from neighbouring provinces.
