Cornwall Regional pathology department concern over working conditions
There are concerns this afternoon about the conditions at the pathology department at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay St James.
For months now, several workers at the hospital have been complaining about the pungent odour emanating from the hospital’s morgue.
It’s reported that medical technologists are sometimes forced to stop working when autopsies are being conducted.
The employees say the malfunctioning air conditioners in some departments have made work unbearable.
The Union of Technical, Administrative and Supervisory Personnel (UTASP), which represents some workers there, said a request has been submitted to the hospital’s management to have the morgue relocated to a separate building.
However UTASP General Secretary, St. Patrice Ennis said he’s yet to receive a definitive response.
Administrators at the hospital say they are aware of the problem and are moving to address it.
