Mottley backed by MPs
Mia Mottley has retained her position as Opposition Leader in the Barbados Parliament.
The attorney-at-law had forced a leadership contest as claims swirled that she did not have the support of her colleagues in the Barbados Labour Party.
Mia Mottley took over the leadership after former Prime Minister Owen Arthur resigned as party leader, following the party\'s general election defeat in January last year.
An opinion poll has since suggested that party members and the general electorate favour Mr Arthur over Ms Mottley.
However, Mr Arthur was not present for yesterday’s election of a Barbados Labour Party.
His absence from the uncontested leadership vote, means that the speculation may not have ended.
After the vote Ms Mottley dismissed Mr Arthur’s no show, and claimed that her win would allow the party to move forward as a unified force.
