Cuban light bulb project to resume

The Energy Minister, Clive Mullings said there is to be an audit of the Cuban light bulb project before distribution resumes.

According to Mr. Mullings, the governments of Cuba and Jamaica will undertake the audit, to determine whether there were shortfalls in the previous distribution of the bulbs.

The controversial project was suspended late last year, after the new administration revealed that there were several irregularities.

He said five constituencies are still to receive the energy saving light bulbs, which is to be done through the Rural Electrification Programme.

The energy minister said the resumption of the Cuban light bulb project is likely as soon as the next budget is tabled in parliament.
