At least 124 people have been killed in widespread flooding in El Salvador following days of heavy rain.

Interior Minister, Humberto Centeno said a state of emergency has been declared in five regions.

Mr Centeno said the Capital San Salvador and the Central San Vicente Province were the hardest hit regions.

Journalist, Juan Carlos Barahona told the BBC that San Vicente is almost completely cut off by landslides and collapsed bridges.

The other badly affected areas are La Libertad, La Paz and Cuscatlan.

Meanwhile 60 people are reported missing, and about 7,000 more are in shelters.
