Obama calls on Clinton to release tax returns information
United States presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama has challenged his rival Senator Hilary Clinton to release information on her tax returns from 2000 to 2006.
Yesterday Senator Obama and his wife released information on their tax returns on their campaign website.
Senator Obama campaign said Clinton should immediately release her 2006 return, pointing to her decision to lend her campaign US$5 million earlier this year.
The Obama camp also cited former president Bill Clinton’s US$20 million payout from supermarket holding company Yucaipa, as a reason the couple should release the information.
The Obama campaign claims the company invests in tax shelters in the Cayman Island.
Senator Clinton promised to release her 2007 tax return after the April 15 income tax deadline.
