A former employee of the Bank of Antigua, previously owned by disgraced Texan Financier, Sir Allen Stanford, has been ordered to pay back more than US$27,000 she stole from the institution.

Thirty-year-old Juana Joseph was charged with stealing the money from eight dormant bank accounts between June 2006 and April 2007, when she was employed as an Information Technology Manager.

In handing down sentence, a magistrate ruled that she must pay the first instalment of US$5,917 within eight months, with similar instalments becoming due at 12-month intervals, until the amount is paid off.

Joseph was also placed on three months’ probation and if she defaults she will be returned to court for alternative sentencing.
