New Zealand won the third one-day international against Pakistan by seven runs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in United Arab Emirates today to clinch the series 2-1, despite Mohammad Aamer hitting a world-record 73 not out at Number 10 for the Pakistanis.

The previous highest score for a Number 10 was 56 not out by Douglas Marillier for Zimbabwe against India in 1998.

Chasing 212 to win, Pakistan slumped from 47 without loss to 101 for nine in the 34th over.

Aamer then added 103 with Saeed Ajmal, 33, for the last wicket to take Pakistan within reach of victory, until Ajmal was out with five balls remaining.

Jacob Oram took the final wicket to finish with three for 20, while Tim Southee claimed two for 26.

Earlier, a career-best haul of four wickets by off-spinner Saeed Ajmal helped Pakistan restrict New Zealand to 211 off 46.3 overs.

Opener Brendon McCallum top scored for New Zealand with 76, while Ross Taylor chipped in with 44.

The teams will now play Twenty/Twenty internationals on Thursday and Friday in Dubai.
