Policeman in court

The special constable who was charged with the death of an 11 month old infant in Spanish Town, St. Catherine last month appeared in the Home Circuit court this morning.



Constable Jason Thompson, who is charged with manslaughter had his bail hearing put off until one this afternoon.



The Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn directed that the case be transferred to Kingston for trial in the Home Circuit Court.



11 month old Broderick Ashmeade was killed, after members of a police party fired shots at a vehicle they were chasing.



The incident sparked a massive protest by angry residents who blocked several sections of the road in the March Pen area, along the Spanish Town bypass.



The residents claimed that irresponsible shooting by the policemen caused the infant’s death.
