Disquiet among NTCS members

There is reported disquiet among some members of the National Transport Co-operative Society (NCTS) over the handling of the funds arising from the bus company’s court victory against the government.

NCTS President, Ezroy Millwood called members to a special meeting yesterday, to outline the verdict handed down recently by the United Kingdom based Privy Council.

However, the meeting got heated when some bus operators raised concerns about members of the NTCS’ board, who will take charge of the funds.

The operators were upset that two board members, who they say have been inactive for a year, will be playing an active role in how the money will be disbursed.

However, Mr. Millwood pleaded with the operators for their understanding.

The NTCS head said he will shortly explain to the operators his reasons for retaining the two board members.

Meanwhile he sought to assure the irate NTCS members that the board will properly disburse the funds awarded by the court.

Lord Anthony Gifford, lead attorney for the NTCS’ legal team, said only those members who operated during the period 1996-1998 will be compensated for losses based on the number of buses they operated.

The NTCS has been granted a $1.85 billion award but interest is expected to increase the sum to $3 billion.
