Defeated St Kitts candidates challenges election results

Two defeated candidates in last month’s general election have filed petitions in the High Court challenging the victory of the candidates of the main opposition People’s Action Movement.

The ruling St Kitts Nevis Labour Party won six of the eight seats contested on the island of St. Kitts during the January 25 election, with the other two seats going to the People’s Action Movement (PAM) candidates.

However, Dr. Norgen Wilson of the ruling party is challenging the election of Shawn K. Richards in the St. Christopher five constituency.

And his colleague and former parliamentary representative, Cedric Liburd is challenging the election of Eugene Hamilton in the St. Christopher eight constituency.

Both defeated candidates are petitioning the Court on the grounds that the nominations of the two PAM legislators are invalid and both men were on Nomination Day, January 15 not qualified.
