The government says it expects within the next three weeks to have a legal opinion on the matter of a fixed election date.
The issue was again raised in the House of Representatives yesterday by Central Kingston Member of Parliament, Ronald Thwaites.
Mr. Thwaites sought answers from Prime Minister Bruce Golding on the JLP administration’s commitment to have the matter addressed.
In his response Mr. Golding told the House that further legal opinion was being sought after which Cabinet will be required to make a decision.
The matter of a fixed election date was among the commitments made by the Jamaica Labour Party during its election campaign.
