Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has ordered members of the National Guard Troops to ride on city buses in the capital, Caracas, in a bid to prevent armed robberies and the frequent killing of bus drivers.
According to BBC reports, there has been about 40 murders a week in Caracas, which is considered to be one of the most violent cities in Latin America.
Some 500 armed National Guard soldiers will reportedly sit alongside passengers on some of the most dangerous routes.
