The Early Childhood Commission is urging institutions that that have not yet registered to do so.

The deadline to submit applications expired almost four months ago.

It’s estimated that close to 3,000 basic schools, daycare centres, pre-schools and other early childhood institutions now operate in Jamaica.

Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Maureen Samms-Vaughn said \"only 2 out of every three schools have applied to be regulated\".

Inspections have already begun in several schools across the parish ahead of the next school term.

Just over 200 institutions have been inspected by the fire and health departments.
