West Indies fail to hold their slight advantage in the second Test as hosts Sri Lanka reach 294 for five in their first innings, following Kumar Sangakkara’s 24th Test hundred before rain again caused an early end to play at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Sangakkara, who resumed day two on 25 with the scores on 84 for three, scored an undefeated 135 before rain stopped play about 15 minutes before tea with a minimum of 46 overs remaining in the day.

West Indies failed to match the steady bowling of the previous day with Sangakkara sharing a record fourth-wicket stand of 170 with Thilan Samaraweera, who hit 80 after resuming on 26.

West Indies pacer Kemar Roach and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo accounted for the two wickets to fall today.

Roach had Angelo Mathews caught behind for 25 to end the day, with figures of three for 66 from 21 overs.

Bravo had Samaraweera caught by Shane Shillingford to end the shortened day with one for 61 from 18 overs.

The three-Test series is level at 0-0 following the drawn first Test. West Indies are seeking their first Test victory ever on Sri Lanka soil.
