The Minister of National Security, Senator Dwight Nelson, has requested that Public Defender, Earl Witter, intervene in the issue surrounding the reported abuse of Jamaican Shanique Myrie by immigration officials in Barbados.

Myrie said that on a visit to Barbados on March 14 she was subjected to invasive cavity searches, assaulted and detained for hours for questioning by immigration officials.

She further said the Barbadian immigration officials were abusive and expressed negative views towards Jamaicans.

Witter says he will be pursuing the matter urgently based on the nature of the allegations made by Myrie.

Witter says he will be asking the parliamentary ombudsman for Barbados to carry out a thorough investigation on his behalf.
