A student of the Holmwood Technical high school in Manchester created history by being the first to be called to the police force, while still in a secondary institution.

The student, Dacia Gayle is a sixth former at Holmwood.

She has already completed the application, interview and the verification processes and is will complete school before she starts police training.

Dacia was introduced this morning at the passing out parade for 291 new constables, who have been enlisted in the force.

Prime Minister Bruce Golding said the new constables have a responsibility to help to reshape the perception of the force.

He also urged them to be honest in their activities.
