Several world leaders have joined in condemning the death of the former Pakistan Prime Minister, Benazir Bhutto. In September, Benazir Bhutto told the CNN she knew that extremists were targeting her.

Today, the President of the neighbouring Afghanistan, Hamad Karzai, was one of the first heads of state to react to the death of Mrs. Bhutto. President Kharzai arrived in Pakistan yesterday to meet with Prime Minister Pervez Musharaff and had met with Miss Bhutto just hours before her assassination.

The President of the United States, George W. Bush, has also condemned the killing calling it a cowardly act. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown, says the assassination should spark a renewed resolve to fight terrorism.

Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban-Kimoon, has appealed for peace in Pakistan. He says the killing was most unfortunate and untimely.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan has announced an official three-day period of mourning following the assassination of Benazir Bhutto.
