Cops probing missing motor vehicle documents

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) says the police have been given full access to all information and personnel required to facilitate their probe into missing Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates, and other motor vehicle related documents.



In a release last night, the TAJ confirmed that investigations are currently being conducted into the matter.



It said the Revenue Protection Division of the finance ministry has been working with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), as it relates to some aspects of the investigation.



The TAJ said a complete list of items was provided to the JCF by way of this collaboration as well as formally by way of letter from Tax Administration.



In addition, the TAJ said steps have been taken to reduce the likelihood of any recurrence.



The issue of the missing Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates was revealed by head of the police Traffic Division Senior Superintendent Radcliffe Lewis, when he appeared before the Senate Committee on National Policy Issues last week.



He had urged the committee to summon top-ranking officials of the TAJ to provide answers regarding the matter.
