Minister of Tourism, Edmond Bartlett, said opposition spokesman, Dr. Wykeham McNeil is seeking to discredit the success of the industry because he is alarmed by the increase in tourism arrivals.

Yesterday, opposition spokesman on tourism Dr. Wykeham McNeil said the figures being announced by the tourism minister were not accurate.

Dr. McNeil claimed that the figures were far below the number reported by Mr. Bartlett.

Mr. Bartlett said Jamaica has recorded an unprecedented increase in tourism arrivals since he assumed office in September.

He also said there was an 18 percent increase for the first two weeks of the winter tourism season that started on December 15.

According to the minister, there was a six percent increase for the last six days of the month.
