Taylor gets top award

Fast bowler Jerome Taylor was voted Jamaica’s Cricketer of the Year at last night’s Jamaica Cricket Association’s annual awards function at the Courtleigh Auditorium in New Kingston.



However, the 24 year old Taylor was unable to attend the ceremony and his Jamaican teammate Brenton Parchment accepted the award on his behalf.



Taylor received the Restaurant of Jamaica Trophy along with $100,000.



For this year, Taylor had already played seven Test matches for the West Indies, taking 28 wickets at 28.46.



In One Day International for the same period, he had 30 wickets in 16 matches with a best of five for 48 against Zimbabwe.



In the Carib Beer Series, which Jamaica won, Taylor, in three matches, picked up 10 wickets.



Meanwhile, Tamar Lambert, acting Jamaica team captain received the Collie Smith Trophy for Leadership on and off the field and Shawn Findlay took the Laurie Williams award for the Most Disciplined Senior Team player.



Other awards went to Mavarick Perry, who won the E.A. Rae award for the national under-19 player, Andre Creary, who won the George Headley for Excellence in Youth cricket award and Shenel Daley was given the Vivalyn Latty-Scott for the Most Improved female player.
