Minister without portfolio in the Finance Ministry, Senator Don Wehby, is promising that under his tenure the current administration will seek to abandon supplementary estimates and stick to the budget announced at the start of every fiscal year.Mr. Wehby says the move should allow for budgetary targets to be met.

He also re-iterated the government’s proposals to reduce the debt burden during the upcoming year. This will include the divestment of the Sugar Company of Jamaica and Air Jamaica, finalizing the third Memorandum of Understanding between the government and public sector workers.

In addition, the government has promised to implement a comprehensive tax reform programme. Mr. Wehby also restated the intention of the government to establish a junior stock exchange market, which will allow small companies to participate on the stock market.

He however did not give a timeline for its implementation.
