VYBZ KARTEL TRIAL: Judge to continue summation

Published:Friday | March 7, 2014 | 9:54 AM

Justice Lennox Campbell is to continue his summation to the 11-member jury hearing the murder case against entertainer Vybz Kartel and four others.

The judge began his summation yesterday when the trial resumed following an adjournment last week Wednesday.

Yesterday afternoon defence lawyer Tom Tavares-Finson had to move quickly to defend his client after Justice Campbell told jurors that Vybz Kartel did not deny that he was the person speaking in voice notes which were played in court.

Tavares-Finson reminded the judge that the defence was saying that the voice notes were manipulated and spliced.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is charged jointly with fellow entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones; Shane Williams and André St John.

They have been on trial since November last year for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.

The Crown is alleging at the trial in the Home Circuit Court that Williams was beaten to death at Kartel's house in Havendale on August 16, 2011 over two missing guns.

Justice Campbell has told the jurors they will have to determine if Williams is dead and that if he is dead whether those on trial killed him.
