Taxi operators call on Mike Henry for new regulations

President of the Association of Hackney Carriages, Willard Costley, said new regulations are to be implemented shortly for the organisation’s members.

Mr. Costley said operators of Hackney Carriages would not be able to renew their licences, unless they comply with the new regulations.

Mr. Costley will also be meeting with the Transport Minister, Mike Henry this week to discuss the issues affecting members of the association.

Unlicenced taxi-operators in the corporate area are calling on Mr. Henry to implement regulations to legalize their operations.

They are expressing concern that when the Half Way Tree Transportation Centre opens on Saturday, they will be left without jobs.

Taxi operators are demanding that they be given the same routes as the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), as they claim the bus service.
