JCF training arms merged to form National Police College of Jamaica

The Police Academy in Twickenham Park St Catherine has been re-named the National Police College of Jamaica.

The police information arm says the move follows the Cabinet's approval for the merger of all training entities at the St Catherine site into a single entity.

A 2008 strategic review team of the Jamaica Constabulary Force had recommended the merger of all the entities at the police training site to address resource and infrastructure problems.

The entities which operated independently at Twickenham Park included the Police Academy, the Jamaica Constabulary Staff College, the Caribbean Search Centre, the Firearm and Tactical Training Unit, and the Driving School.

The JCF says through its staff college, partnerships had been formed with accredited training institutions to offer certificate and degree programmes in public sector management.

The Staff College is registered with the University Council of Jamaica.
