West Indies/England draw
The West Indies’ bid for a victory over England in the fourth cricket Test at Kensington Oval in Barbados ended in a draw today following solid batting from the visitors led by Alastair Cook.
England, trailing by 149 runs on first innings, finished on 279 for two in their second innings when the game was called off with an hour and 10 minutes before the scheduled close of the last day.
Cook batted well to finish unbeaten on 139 after his team resumed this morning on six without loss, 143 runs shy of West Indies’ first innings total.
Kevin Pietersen hit 72 not out.
Captain Chris Gayle, one for 46, and Sulieman Benn, one for 64, were the only wicket takers for the West Indies. The result means that West Indies still lead the five-Test series 1-0.
Gayle said he is happy for the result heading into the final Test, which starts in Trinidad on Friday.
England skipper Andrew Strauss said the wicket was very difficult to bowl on.
Final scores are England 600 for six declared and 233 for three declared, West Indies 749 for nine declared.
